Shield

I know I still have to work on disarming indignation because today my life experience and intellect risk me becoming overly dismissive if I am not careful. When you fashion a protective carapace over the years it is at first employed as a shield but over time becomes a potential weapon once your eyes are opened to the irrationality and superficiality of the world. At first, dropping that shield is terrifying because it requires vulnerability but then it gets easier when you realize most people at their root aren't malicious by nature. They are simply scared.

We aren't educated to lead genuine lives but instead to kowtow to convention. However once we see behind the curtain, we realize we really needn't have bothered and for the longest time had made a terrible mistake before finally awakening.
